William Gale Pitt

February 17, 1941 — May 23, 2024

William Gale Pitt, fondly known as "Bill or Billy," passed away after a long battle with lung cancer at his home in Norman, Oklahoma, on May 23, 2024. Born on February 17, 1941, in Safford, Arizona, Billy was the cherished son of William Elder Pitt and Margie Edna Steely, both of whom preceded him in death.

Billy's early years were marked by a deep love for music and sports. While attending Norman High School, he showcased his musical talents by playing in a band and achieved athletic excellence, winning a state title in baseball in 1959. His love for music and sports remained with him throughout his life, often playing guitar and singing and bringing joy to those around him.

Billy married Judy Pitt, and together they raised two daughters, Debbie and Shelly, in a home filled with love, laughter, and music. Billy was known for his outgoing nature and he never met a stranger. His engaging conversations, famously dubbed "Conversations with Billy," left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Later in life, Bill married Diane Moore, expanding his loving family further. He was a devoted family man, always putting his family first and ensuring they felt loved and supported. Whether helping in any way he could or simply being present in the moment, Bill's family was his greatest joy.

Bill's passions extended to the great outdoors, where he enjoyed golfing with his family and grandsons and fishing for bass, one of his favourite pastimes. He embodied the qualities of being "salt of the earth," a rock for his family, and a true example of selfless love and dedication.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Diane Pitt; his daughters, Debbie Tresemer, her husband David of Norman, OK; and Shelly Wilson, her husband Pete of Norman, OK; his stepsons, Kevin Moore; Geoff Moore, his wife Jill of Dallas, TX; his stepdaughters, Melinda Rathke, her husband William of Dallas, TX; Cindy Schmitt, her husband Matt of Dallas, TX; his sisters, Karen McCalip of Norman, OK; and Sally Fritch, her husband Jim of Broken Arrow, OK; and his adored grandchildren, Cutter Elliott, Clancy Tresemer, Deia Wilson, Cade Wilson, Jackson Moore, Sarah Moore, Alexandra Moore, Sophie Moore, Preston Schmitt, and Kyle Schmitt.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Terre Verde Discovery School 1000 36th Ave SE, Norman, OK 73026 or a charity of your choice in Bill's honour, reflecting his generous spirit and love for helping others.

Bill will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of love, music, and family will continue to resonate in the hearts of those he touched.
