Walter Alan Terrell

January 10, 1931 — September 23, 2023

Walter Alan (Sonny) Terrell of Norman, passed away early Saturday September 23. He was 92. Walt was born January 10, 1931 in Foster, OK to Roy and Della (Shortes) Terrell. He attended school in Graham and Lindsay before attending East Central in Ada on a basketball scholarship. In addition to a degree in Education, basketball gave him the opportunity to play on a summer traveling squad opposing the Harlem Globetrotters.

Walt’s career path led him to Halliburton in Wyoming, designer and administrator of a first-time offender penal institution in Kansas, then Landman, Realtor and co-founder of Metro Brokers in Norman.

Walt has been very active and made many friends with McFarlin UMC, Norman Kiwanis, Norman Board of Realtors, Norman Chamber of Commerce, Salvation Army, and Cleveland County Republicans.

He and his wife JoAnn were long-time season ticket holders to Sooner football and OU Women’s Basketball. They travelled the globe together for nearly 40 years.

In addition to JoAnn, he leaves behind his nephew, Steve Long of Norman and his nieces, Susan (Michael) Owens of Copperas Cove, TX, Sharon Wieland (Ken) of Arlington, TX, Patty (J.B.) Chimene of Johnson City, TX, and Ronda Byrne (Jeff) of Duncan.

He will also be greatly missed by his partners and close friends at Metro Brokers, Gwen Arveson, Betty Goss, and Jim and Sherry Gottschalk.

Walt is preceded by his parents, brother and sister-in-law, Billy Roy and Vallie Terrell, sister and brother-in-law, Tom and Ila Mae (Terry) Long, and nephew, Michael Terrell.
