Virginia Sue "Jenny" Smart

February 8, 1940 — May 16, 2018

Virginia Sue “Jenny” Smart was born on February 8, 1940 to Sydney Cleo and Frances Irene (Gillum) Smart in Frederick, Oklahoma. She joined her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at the age of 78.
Jenny grew up in Frederick and graduated from Frederick High School. She was a great beauty and even did some modeling in her younger days. Jenny never married, but it wasn’t for lack of options! She had a penchant for well-dressed Cowboys in white Stetsons, and those same Cowboys had a penchant for her! She received no fewer than six marriage proposals, which she always turned down with kindness and grace.

Early in her career Jenny worked as an interior decorator, though she never considered it work. She loved beautiful things, especially antiques, and used them in her decorating as much as possible. At one point she opened a shop, where she sold Western items and ran her decorating business. Later in her life Jenny worked as the manager for her apartment complex, Stone Fountain Apartments.

Jenny had a great many interests and talents and lived a full and interesting life. She took great pride in coining phrases that became widely used by her family such as “skip a bath” and “knock your socks off”. She could always be counted on for a unique comment on everything. Jenny loved listening to country music, especially Merle Haggard and Ray Price, but that didn’t keep her from taking her nephew to a Led Zeppelin concert when he was fourteen!

Jenny loved her family with all her heart, second only to her love of Jesus. She had an incredibly giving spirit and would give you the shirt off her back and her last loaf of bread if it was needed. She would do anything for her family and took every opportunity she had to show them how much she loved them. No matter what she was doing or where she was, Jenny would drop everything to help those she loved.

Jenny was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Stanley Smart, and her brother-in-law Danny Weaver. She is survived by her brother Gary Smart of Norman, sisters Shirley Bruner and husband Bob of Yukon, Sharon Weaver of Purcell, Judy Craig and husband Jack of Yukon, a host of nieces and nephews (who she considered to be “her kids”), extended family, and friends.
