Virginia Joan Shockley went to her Eternal Home on September 27, 2020. Joan Shockley was born on August 3, 1932 to Louis Barbero and Melanie Annie Watteau Barbero in Henryetta, OK. She grew up and graduated from Henryetta High School and married Joe Thomas Shockley on June 2, 1949. Joe and Joan lived in Henryetta until 1975 when they moved to Fresno, CA. Joan worked during holiday seasons in Henryetta making beautiful flower arrangements for the various holidays. The couple retired to Norman, OK in 1990.
Joan enjoyed gatherings with family and friends, attending her children’s activities and was active in East Fresno Baptist Church, where she served on several committees. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Norman. She also enjoyed her Sunday School Class and the monthly brunches hosted by director, Jane Close. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband and family.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joe, and her only sister and best friend, Rosalie Berkey.
She is survived by her two children: Joe Shockley, Jr. and wife, Ginger of Norman, OK and Jill Lynn Shockley Neal and husband, Paul of Clovis, California. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Brent Shockley and wife, Jamie, of Lantana, TX; Blake Shockley and wife, Molly, of Jenks, OK; Lindsay Huang and husband, Andrew, of Fresno, CA; Chad Neal and wife, Hayley, of Clovis, CA. The family wants to express its heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Rambling Oaks Assisted Living Center, Rambling Oaks Courtyard and Centennial Hospice for their loving care of Joan.
