Vicki Rankin Cox

Vicki Rankin Cox, 70, of Norman, OK, departed this life peacefully in the early hours of February 9, 2023 in Norman, OK.

Vicki was born to Nancy and Eugene P. Rankin in San Francisco, CA on May 22, 1952. However, the Chicago area was home, where she grew up in Wilmette and graduated from New Trier High School in 1970. She then attended the University of Oklahoma, where she graduated in May of 1977 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology. The first day of her freshman year at OU she met Gary Cox, with whom she instantly fell in love (or was it his ’65 GTO?) and they were ultimately married on August 27, 1977 in Wilmette.

Vicki is predeceased by her Mother, Father and brother, Ross Rankin. She is survived by Ex-Husband, Gary Cox and their three children; Kellen Cox, Kaitlin (Kurt) Nehrenz, and Dylan Cox; Grandson Brady Cox, and his mother Ragen Cox; Brothers and sisters Rhys (Patty) Rankin, Randy Rankin, Kelly Rankin, and Tracy Rankin; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and loved ones.

Although Vicki and Gary divorced in 2012, they remained good friends (most of the time), with Gary caring for her in his/their home during the last year of her life.

While she will be greatly missed by all family and friends, we are comforted by the fact that she was a devout Catholic who knew where she was headed after this life on Earth. There is no doubt that she is enjoying a party with previously departed friends and family. We pray they don’t run out of Bota Box Chardonnay.

According to Vicki, she excelled at softball and basketball, even earning the privilege of playing “Rover” on a middle school basketball team. (Gary said he remembers her participation, however is a bit fuzzy on the “excelled” part).

A Celebration of Life will be held at Penny Hill Bar and Char in Norman on Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 2 to 4 pm, during which friends are welcome to drop by and share memories and stories of Vicki.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Oklahoma Chapter.
