Thomas Alan Hrubik passed away on December 27, 2024 at the age of eighty-one. He was born on June 9, 1943 to Olive Ruth and Andrew Hrubik Jr. in Akron, Ohio. Tom is survived by his wife of fifty years, Elizabeth (Liz), a daughter Christine Renee and her partner Jeremy of Norman; two sons, James Russell and fiancé Stacie of Chicago, Andrew Karl of Moore; and one granddaughter Danielle.
Tom was a servant in life. At the age of eighteen, after graduating high school, he entered the U.S. Air Force and served his nation for over twenty-five years, attaining the rank of Senior Master Sergeant, and retiring in 1986. After his military retirement, he was offered a job with Rockwell International, and then the Boeing Company as a technical writer for the B1 aircraft. He retired from Boeing in 2008.
Tom engaged in Boy Scouts most of his life and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He served Scouting in many capacities, especially as an adult leader. First as a leader with several troops, and then as an integral member of the Scout ushering program for OU football on game days.
Tom served his church, Sunny Lane UMC, after joining in 1987, in several ways for many years. He served on several church committees and as a Lay Delegate to the Annual Conference for several years. He made the commitment to become a Lay Speaker and enjoyed visiting different churches in the area and meeting other United Methodist members. Tom had been a member of the band in High School, so when the church orchestra started, he dusted off his horn and joined. A drama team also began, and he decided to get involved, which also included running the sound equipment for not only the dramas, but also services and orchestra concerts. Lastly, Tom was a member of the United Methodist Men in every way possible.
Tom loved the game of football, collegiate and professional. He grew to like the Thunder and enjoyed watching their games. His sport of choice in retirement was golf, and he played as often as life would allow.
Tom Hrubik has given us quite a legacy and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
