Thiel Kaye Shrewsbury (Maddon) was born July 30, 1935, in Norman, OK to Edgar N (Ed) and Mildred Kathryn (Walsh) Maddon. She passed away after a long illness at Baptist Village of Oklahoma City on November 23, 2019. She attended Norman Public Schools and was in the Norman High class of 1953.
She was united in marriage to Wendel Kirk Shrewsbury May 29, 1954, at McFarlin Methodist Church in Norman. Thiel and Wendel met while working at the movie theater. Thiel worked at the Sooner Theater and Wendel at Varsity Theater across the street. After their marriage, Wendel enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in Ulm, Germany. Thiel soon joined him in Germany where their daughter Michelle Denise was born in 1956. After being discharged from the Air Force, the family moved back to Norman where their son Michael Kirkpatrick was born in 1958. Thiel spent most of her adult life as a homemaker taking great pride in caring for her family. After the death of Wendel in 1975, Thiel eventually started a career at the University of Oklahoma in the athletic ticket department until her retirement.
Thiel enjoyed playing cards and games with friends and family, attending OU athletic events, and she never missed her kids or grandkids activities. She was an accomplished seamstress and spent many hours designing and making skating costumes when her children were competitive roller skaters. Thiel and Wendel were part of the original members of the Norman High Athletic Association. Her very favorite activity was hanging out with her friend Jane Fullerton and following the John Arnold Band.
Survivors include her daughter, Michelle Linnemann and son Mike Shrewsbury of Norman; two grandsons, Rhett Jones of Norman, and Jared Shrewsbury and wife Jennifer of Edmond; two granddaughters, Jordyn Williams and husband Austin of Oklahoma City, and Mikayla Linnemann of Dallas, TX; one great-grandson, Seth Sehon of Wylie, TX; one sister, Suzan Bugher of Lexington; sister-in-law, Ellen Maddon of Oklahoma City; brother-in-law, Colonel (Ret) Tom Feuerborn of Franklin, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
