Terry Wayne Estes 80, of Norman passed away after a brief illness Sunday January 7, 2024. He was born November 25, 1943 in Oklahoma City to Claude R. and Doris L. (Allen) Estes.
Terry grew up in Moore, Oklahoma. After graduating from Moore High School, he attended the University of Oklahoma where he received a BA in government and a Law degree. He met the love of his life Janet Parker on Valentines Day in 1974 and later on June 14,1975 they married. He served in the United States Army at Ft. Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis, Indiana where he was an instructor in the defense information school. Upon separation from the Army, he began a career as a radio disc jockey that lasted over 35 years. He worked at radio stations in Norman, Oklahoma, Indianapolis, Indiana, Lexington, Kentucky, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Using the air name Dave Murray, he and Dan Stroud were “The Dynamic Duo, Dave and Dan” on KXXY radio for almost 25 years. Terry would also add that it was the number one morning program for over ten years in a row.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Janet; five cousins; his two special friends from high school, Ken Hopper, and Wesley Kausbaum; a great friend from the time they were four years old, Charlotte Reynolds; as well as many other classmates from the Moore 1961 graduating class.
A celebration of Terry’s life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made in memory of Terry to Second Chance Animal Rescue in Norman, OK
