Susan Michele (Palmore) Vorwald was born October 31, 1957 to Glenn Loyd, Sr. and Nina Jacqueline (Rabb) Palmore in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. She passed at the age of 60 on September 10, 2018.
Susan married the love of her life, David Vorwald, on January 3, 1976 in El Paso, Texas. Susan and David had one child: son Brock. She was a loving and involved mother, never missing an opportunity to watch Brock play soccer and basketball, even serving at one point as the president of the Norman Youth Soccer Association. She became a mother figure to all of Brock’s sports friends, who came from all over the world.
Susan was a true force to be reckoned with; when she set her mind to something there was no question it would be accomplished. She had a knack for sales, working at Roche Biomedical LabCorp for 20 years, where she worked up to a Senior Territory Manager and was a top 1% producer, and then for nine years as a senior sales rep at McGraw-Hill Higher Education.
Being a Halloween baby, Susan had a natural affinity for pumpkin decorating. She coordinated pumpkin decorating contests at their annual Thanksgiving family reunions and took pride in being a judge and organizing prizes for the winners. She loved gardening and babysitting her only grandchild, Oliver.
Susan had a huge heart, with a special affection for homeless cats and dogs. She served as an advisor for Heartland Animal Hospital, and even fostered several of their animals while they waited for their forever homes. Susan also was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha in her college days and continued her connection to the sorority by acting as an Alumni Advisor.
Susan was preceded in death by her father Glenn L. Palmore, veteran of three wars, and her brother-in-law Mike Rampy. She is survived by: David Vorwald, her husband of 42 years; son Brock Vorwald, his wife Gini, and Susan’s grandson Oliver; mother Jacque Palmore; sister Robbie Rampy; brothers Glenn Palmore, Jr. and wife Darlene and Mark Palmore and wife Carla; brother-in-law Jim Vorwald; six nieces: Michelle Semelroth and husband Ian; Peggy Denholtz, husband Matt, and their son Corbin; Haley Palmore; Jamie Vorwald; Cora Vorwald; and Jacque Rampy; and nephews Michael Palmore and Braden Palmore.
Memorial donations in Susan’s name may be made to Heartland Lab Rescue at heartlandlabrescue.com.
Services to celebrate Susan’s life will be held in the funeral’s downstairs event center on Saturday, September 15th. Her family will be present to receive friends at 9:00am and a memorial service will follow at 10:00am. Susan will be buried in Eastview Memorial Cemetery in Vernon, Texas on Saturday afternoon.
