Dr. Stephen Guy Lindsey of Norman, Oklahoma, passed peacefully into heaven surrounded by his loving family on July 20th, 2024.
Born on July 11, 1953, in Pryor, Oklahoma, to Dr. Robert Andrew Lindsey and Rayma Lynn Lindsey, his parents encouraged Steveʼs lifetime of service by modeling the significance of a servantʼs heart.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife, Lori Lindsey, and their daughters, Rachel Cross (Dr. Christopher Cross) and Lauren Brownrigg (Bray Brownrigg). He is also survived by his brother, Mark Lindsey (Laura Lindsey), Misty Rosamond and Mandy Jefferson, and adored Mother-in-Law, Marceline McIntire. He also leaves behind his five cherished grandchildren, Charlotte, Jon, and Cameron Cross, and Braxton and Bowen Brownrigg. He is also survived by extended family, nieces, and nephews. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Robert Lindsey and Rayma Angelo, and his father-in-law, Charles McIntire. We feel great peace knowing upon entering heaven, he was welcomed in celebration by those who went before him and embraced by his Lord and Savior.
Steve's life was characterized by his unwavering commitment to his community as a dedicated physician. After joining a family practice clinic in Norman in 1982, he touched countless lives through his medical practice, earning the respect of all he encountered, and the gratitude of patients and colleagues alike. Steveʼs professional journey began with a Bachelor's Degree in Zoology from the University of Oklahoma in 1975, followed by his graduation from OU School of Medicine in 1979. After completing his residency in Family Medicine in Wichita, Kansas, Steve returned to Norman in 1982. Shortly after, he met and married the love of his life, Lori McIntire, and had two daughters, Rachel Leigh and Lauren Marie. Together they planted deep roots within the Norman Community where they resided for over 40 years. Steve was also a fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice. The community awarded Dr. Lindsey “Best Doctor” many times during his career. After 38 years of devoted service, Steve retired on Dec. 31st, 2020.
Beyond medicine, Steve was a man of deep faith, active in his church and known for his kind and humorous spirit. He was an accomplished joke and story teller. He cherished his family above all else. He was a dedicated father to his daughters, supporting them endlessly in their education and activities. He found great joy in cheering at OU sporting events, playing basketball, and golfing. He was an avid supporter of the OU Sooners and cherished the camaraderie on game days. He loved spending time outdoors, particularly in the mountains of Oklahoma and New Mexico as a Boy Scout, at father/daughter camp outs, and trips with dear friends to his favorite place, the Gallinas Canyon. Steve's legacy extends beyond his professional achievements and hobbies. He served as Medical Director of Life Springs Home Health and Hospice for over 20 years. He was named Chief of Medical Staff at Norman Regional Hospital; he also contributed his expertise to numerous community and hospital committees.
His memory will be cherished by all who knew him—for his laughter, warmth, kindness, and the profound impact he made through a life dedicated to healing and service. Steve leaves behind a void that cannot be filled; his legacy of integrity, faith, and compassion will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate to know him.
In support of Steveʼs decision to further understand and treat neurodegenerative diseases his family encourages a charitable contribution to the Brain Support Network. Donations can be made to Brain Support Network, PO Box 7264, Menlo Park, CA 94026 or at https://www.brainsupportnetwork.org/donate
We are beyond grateful for his wonderful healthcare team that included Dr. Tom Merrill, Dr. Jonathan Bryan, Life Springs Home Health, Good Sheperd Hospice, Dr. Natalie Kurkjian of Mercy, and his special caregiver Catrina Lawson who cared for him in his final weeks.
