Sierra Caroline Johnson, daughter of Jeff and Andrea Johnson of Norman, Oklahoma, was born at Norman Regional Hospital on January 14, 2004. Sierra graduated Norman North High School in 2022, where she was a member of the Latin Club and played on the drum line for the marching band. She was a freshman at Bennington College in Bennington, Vermont at the time of her passing.
Sierra was a member of the Immanuel Baptist church in Norman, having given her life to Jesus as a child. She grew up loving to read her Bible, going to church and singing songs about Jesus and his love for all of us.
Growing up, Sierra took karate, learned to play piano, played soccer, and participated in all kinds of sports. But reading and writing became her passions. Driven by an insatiable thirst for learning and knowledge, Sierra read constantly on topics like science, religion, philosophy, languages, history and classical literature. She also became a fiercely passionate writer who employed her knowledge and writing skills into the creation of her own novels, primarily in the genre of dystopian fiction. Sierra’s major at Bennington College was English, with an emphasis in writing.
Sierra passed on from this life on Monday, May 8, 2023 at the Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York. She was preceded in death by her “Granddad” Bob Dulin, her great grandmother Lenore Sherrod, her “Mema” Debbie Johnson and her great uncle Charles Wise.
Sierra is survived by her parents Jeff and Andrea Johnson of the home, along with her beagle puppies Dinah and Sadie. She is also survived by her grandmother Janet Dulin of Norman, who loved Sierra with all her heart; by her uncle Michael Dulin who would take Sierra flying, and her aunt Kelsey and her cousins Bode and Ella of Edmond; by her uncle Jamie Johnson who let her play in his fire truck and ride horses, and her aunt Jonna of Heavener; and by her great aunt Janis Wise and her cousins Adam and Peter of Fairfax, Virginia.
Sierra also leaves behind an extended family who embraced her on every occasion, a church family who continued to love her and pray for her through the years, and cherished friends in Norman and at college in Bennington who enjoyed hanging out with her and playing Dungeons and Dragons over Zoom.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm Friday, May 19, 2023 at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Norman. Interment will follow at the Paoli Cemetery in Paoli, Oklahoma.
The family will be available for visitation with family and friends at Tribute Memorial Care in Norman on Thursday evening from 5-7pm.
