Sherry Lynn Herrington

Sherry Lynn Wester-Herrington was born on January 2, 1959, to William Alton Wester and Wilma Grey Pearce-Wester in Charlotte, North Carolina. She left this earth, bound for heaven on December 31, 2021.

Sherry grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, graduated from Craigmont High in 1977, and studied at Memphis State. She married the love of her life, Benjamin Herrington, in 1980. Ben was her chosen adventure partner and most favorite artist. Together they raised two daughters, Sara (Herrington) Brown and Amy Herrington. Later, she also became ‘Mom’ to her two sons-in-law, Stephen Brown and Justin Climer. She would proudly claim motherhood as some of her life’s greatest work, in addition to being ‘Neena’ to her most favorite people—Emma (age 8), Ben (age 6), and Jones (9 months). She and Ben were married for 41 years and recently moved from their home in Duncan, Oklahoma, to Norman to be closer to family.

Sherry was the ultimate caretaker and nurturer extraordinaire. She had only two biological children, but the list of people who call her ‘Momma Sherry’ or claimed her as a second mother is endless. Not only did she never meet a stranger, but she adopted nearly every person she met and eagerly welcomed them into her home. She was sincerely gifted at making people feel like they belonged.

Though she always claimed to be the least creative member of the family, she was a true artist and craftsman. Her mediums included colorful ceramics, playful cross-stitches, and extravagant costume designs. She was a master baker, skilled at designing elaborate birthday cakes, and made the most delicious chocolate chip cookies on earth.

She taught her children and her grandchildren life’s most important skills; How to love people through food—particularly homemade lasagna and carrot cake, how to spread joy through reckless laughter, and how to construct the most phenomenal sheet forts.

Aside from playing with grandkids, her favorite activity, Sherry’s favorite pastime was spending countless hours tending her plants. She poured the same infinite amount of love into her garden that she poured into her people.

She was in many ways a conundrum—exceptional yet ordinary, like the way people should be but rarely are. She had a memory that could recall nearly everything a person ever said to her, yet she was quick to forget an argument and the location of her car keys. She possessed remarkable patience with her children and grandchildren, yet her impatience for boredom inspired her to make fun happen rather than wait around for it to occur.

Sherry was warmth and love embodied. She worked tirelessly to do good and went above and beyond to shine her light wherever she found darkness. She loved Jesus and dedicated her entire life to seeking His wisdom. Her faith never wavered, and nothing brought her more joy than sharing her faith through friendship and fellowship.
