Scott “Scotty” Bowlin Morris, Jr. of Norman was born in Cordell, Oklahoma on September 4, 1930 to Scott and Mary (Mobley) Morris. He passed away just four days shy of his 86th birthday.
Scotty moved to Norman in 1950 to start working at Gordon Specialty for his wife’s uncle, Gordon Morain, as the first serviceman of the company. Not long before the move he married the love of his life, Berniece Weber on April 8, 1949 at the Salem Baptist Church in Gotebo, Oklahoma. He worked at Gordon’s Specialty from 1950-1957 then moved to State Farm until 1972 and finally to Best Insurance, where he retired in 1992.
Scotty had a servant’s faithful heart. He was an active member of Kiwanis for 20 years and he taught the 5th grade boys Sunday School class at First Baptist Church in Norman. Scotty was also very involved with the Union Baptist Association Mission Builders; his job was to frame in the windows and doors in the churches they built. He also served as the Assistant Treasurer for the Union Baptist Assiciation. Scotty was a Deacon at First Baptist Church until he left to become a founding member of Northeast Baptist Church, where he also acted as Deacon.
Scotty had an adventurous side. He loved fishing, whether it was using jug line and trot lines at his cabin at Lake Eufaula or deep sea fishing with Gordon Morain in South Padre. Scotty also enjoyed gardening and painting. He was known to many as “The Popcorn Man” at the Norman swap meets. He absolutely adored his nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, to whom he was known as “Baba”.
To honor Scotty’s memory, the family asks that donations be made to the Northeast Baptist Church Building Fund (905 E. Rock Creek Rd. Norman, OK 73071 / www.nebaptist.com/giving) or to the charity of your choice.
