Sandy Dismukes

Sandra K. Dismukes, a cherished resident of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away on May 5th, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering faith.

Sandy was born on April 26, 1964, to Glen and Jan Carroll in Ardmore. She grew up in Seminole where she excelled in school and became an accomplished pianist and trumpet player and was active in drama and debate. She attended the University of Oklahoma where she graduated with a degree in pharmacy and was a member of Delta Gamma sorority.

Sandy was an exceptional pharmacist. As a teenager, she worked as a tech in a local pharmacy to learn more about the profession and later distinguished herself professionally as a pharmacist in three states working in hospital, specialty care and retail settings. Her dedication to the profession was unparalleled. Her commitment was unwavering. She had a particular passion and unique ability to connect with behavioral health patients.

Her life was spent in service to others, whether through her work, caring for family and friends, or engagement in the community. She was always there for everyone no matter what the situation and displayed an indomitable spirit.

In her life's journey, Sandy found enduring love in her marriage to Jeff Dismukes. They were married six months from the day of their first date. Together, they welcomed their beloved son, Beau, into the world, forming a loving and caring family, overcoming numerous challenges, and sharing incredible experiences. Sandy cherished not only her immediate family but also her close friends, considering them as vital as her own kin. She was blessed to be surrounded by those people dearest to her in life as she passed.

Sandy’s unwavering faith as a Christian and member of the Baptist Church provided her with strength and guidance throughout her life's journey. Her commitment to her beliefs was unwavering, serving as a guiding light in times of joy and adversity alike.

Beyond her professional and familial roles, Sandy found joy in various hobbies and interests. People were often surprised when she would talk about drag racing and cars, something she grew up around in her youth, until they rode with her to some event and then they understood. She loved her Jaguars and ruby red, turbocharged Mustang. Sandy’s culinary talents were celebrated, earning her a Blue Ribbon at the Chocolate Festival. Her cookies and various desserts were often requested by friends, and she was famous for her etouffee. And even though she hated bananas, hating the smell and feel, she selflessly baked incredible banana puddings for her family.

She was a reader, always having multiple books going at once. She collected antique medical texts and artifacts, was an avid shopper and held a blackbelt in taekwondo. She also loved baseball, and despite hating being out in the sun, she spent an exorbitant amount of time at ballparks across the country to cheer for Beau without complaint.

Sandy is survived by her husband Jeff and son Beau, both of Norman, her mother Jan Carrell of Seminole, brothers Ted and Chris of Seminole and Shawnee, sister-in-law Nancy Logan of Norman, niece Janine Warren and husband Bob of Norman, nephews Garrison and Chandler Carrell of Oklahoma City and Seminole, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and close friends who are part of her extended family. She was preceded in death by her father Glen Carrell, paternal and maternal grandparents, and her mother-in-law Faye Dismukes.

A celebration of Sandy’s life will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, May 14th, at the First Baptist Church of Norman, 211 W Commanche, where friends, family and members of the community will gather to honor her memory.

Though Sandy may no longer be with us in person, her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts and memories of all who knew and loved her. Her legacy of kindness, generosity and faith will forever be cherished and remembered.
