Sally Vickers

February 17, 1942 — December 1, 2021

Sally Rose Vickers died the way she preferred to live: surrounded by friends and family in her beloved Norman home of nearly five decades. A native of Burbank, CA, Sally was born to Hubert and Arnett Casey Iversen and was the big sister to four spirited younger brothers. She married her high school sweetheart, Donald Rose, and together they had two children, Jennifer and Bradley. The young family moved to Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, TX, where Sally earned her bachelor's degree and began a teaching career. They arrived in Norman where Sally became a lifelong Sooner, earning her master's, then re-entering as a student in her later years to feed her curious nature and her love of learning. Sally's early passion for sports like swimming, skiing and dance gave way to a muscle disease that eventually confined her to a wheelchair but could never contain her zest for love and life. She met and married her second husband, Darwyn Vickers, who made Norman his adopted home for the last 24 years of their lives together. Sally and Dar enjoyed active social lives with a close community of cherished friends, highlighted by Thursday night pizza dinners and weekly Sunday brunches. Sally served many roles: only daughter, big sister, devoted wife, doting mom, Aunt Sally and Grammy to a large and blended family who treasured their years with her until her last breath on December 1, 2021. Sally is survived by her children Jennifer Rose (Tony Crosby) and Bradley Rose (Kim Meza) and step-children Mark Vickers and Stacy Vickers (Jason Johnson), grandchildren Casey and Reagan Shirk, Dakota and Stella Rose, Markus Vickers (Wendy Collins), Trina Oswald and Michelle Oswald Kharazzi (Brian Kharazzi), and great-grandchildren Faye, Emma and Josh Kharazzi and Gianna Vickers. A celebration of life for Sally will be held on December 18th. Please contact jennif6204@yahoo.com if you wish to attend. The funeral service is private at Sally’s request. -
