Sarah June “Sallie” Artman (Teegardin), age 94, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2020 peacefully at home with her children holding her hands.
Sallie was born December 8, 1925 to Lula (Meder) and Roy Teegardin in Norman. Sallie grew up in Norman with her three sisters and after graduating from OU she married Joseph Lee Artman (Naval war hero and recipient of the Silver Star and Purple Heart). They raised two children, Joe Frank and Jean Ann.
Sallie and Joe then began their journey by moving every few years for Texaco Oil Company to places as diverse as Midland, Texas; Greenwich, CT; Boston, Albuquerque and the list goes on. Sallie became an expert on creating wonderful homes and amazing environments for her children. Sallie loved golf, gardening, reading, home design/decorating and entertaining.
We all loved that all the Teegardin sisters married OU men and no one ever divorced in all their years together. There was also an amazing family bond created when Sallie and her sister Martha, married the Artman boys. Being able to visit both sides of our family at the same time made for a lifetime of memories.
Sallie was preceded in death by her parents; Roy and Lula Teegardin, husband; Joseph L. Artman of 57 years, infant son; James Gregory, three sisters; Martha Artman, EvaMay Brett (Rusty), DonaGene Shrier (Donald) and nephew; Joe David Artman.
Sallie is survived by her two children; Joe (Sandee) from California and Ann Callahan from CT/Norman, beloved brother in law; Dr. Jim P. Artman (proud US Marine and longtime OU professor) 98 years old and still going strong. Grandchildren; Amy Mooney (Ryan), Teri Alves (Carlos), Michael Callahan (Christina) all from Connecticut, nephews; Jim R. Artman (Gayla), Sam Brett (Naomi) and Dee (Liz), Kim (Carol) and Lou (Jill) Shrier, nieces; Maia Everhart (Dan) from Sulphur, OK., Kelly Roberts (Jim), Laurie Jackson (Mitch), great nephew; Taylor Artman all now living in Texas. Great granddaughters; Avery and Adrian Alves and Emilie and Blake Mooney.
