Roff Wayne Smith

Roff Wayne Smith of Norman was born on September 2, 1933 to David Ewin and Mattie Winnie (Eastus) Smith in Chattanooga, Oklahoma. He passed at the age of 83 on Wednesday, February 8, 2017.

Upon graduation from high school, Roff enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Germany during the Korean War. After two years of service, he enrolled at Oklahoma State University and became a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. Roff graduated from Oklahoma State with a Bachelor’s degree and then began his career with Oklahoma Natural Gas Company. He retired in 1998 completing 39 years of service. He was active in Rotary and was awarded a “Paul Harris Fellow” award for his many years of service. Roff volunteered in numerous area organizations and causes. His hobbies included: golf, fishing, snow skiing and piloting his single engine plane. Roff loved helping people with his handyman skills. He was an active member of the McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class. He served on McFarlin’s Food Pantry Committee and helped build Food and Shelter for Friends. Roff was a member of the Norman Home Builders Association for many years.

He is survived by: wife Sally (Brown) Smith; daughter Sherril Sibley and husband Tim of Frisco, TX and their children Tyler and Travis Sibley; son Todd Smith and wife Susan of Fairview, OK and their children Abby and Jensen Smith; brother Lowell Smith of Irving, TX; sister Geneva Redway of Grandfield, OK. Roff was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Joreen and brother, Leon Smith.

Roff’s family has entrusted his arrangements to Tribute Memorial Care in Norman. A celebration of Roff’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, February 13, 2017 at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church (419 S. University Blvd, Norman), with the Reverend Dr. Linda Harker officiating. Memorial donations in honor of Roff may be made to the McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church “Youth Mission Fund.” Condolences may be shared online at www.tribute.care.
