Rodney Harold Smith of Norman passed away on February 19, 2018 in Oklahoma City at the age of 59 years.
Rodney was born on December 19, 1958 in Olney, Texas. He was the son of James Harold and Sylvia Cecilia (Rogers) Smith. At the age of 5 he moved with his family to Oklahoma City. One year later they moved to Norman, where he lived for the remainder of his life. Rodney attended Norman Public Schools, graduating in 1977 from Norman High School. He then furthered his education at Rose State, where he played baseball. After attending the University of Oklahoma for one year, Rodney began his career in the oil and gas industry. On March 22, 1985 he married the love of his life, Charissa Denise Horn, in Inola, Oklahoma, and the couple made their home in Norman. In 1991, Rodney and Charissa had their first daughter, Kaitlin, followed by Kallie in 1995.
Rodney was a loving husband, father, and son. He was an avid OU football fan and loved to golf. He loved listening to Kaitlin sing and enjoyed watching The Bachelor with Kallie. He was always there for his family at any time of the day or night, regardless of what was going on. Rodney was a member of the First Baptist Church of Norman. He was a man who led by example and loved the Lord with all his heart.
Rodney was preceded in death by his grandparents: Cecil and Pearl Rogers and Lum and Ruby Smith. He is survived by: wife Charissa Smith of Norman; two daughters: Kaitlin Smith and fiancé Channing Bray and Kallie Smith, both of Norman; parents James and Sue Smith of Norman; two brothers: Ron Smith and wife Paula of Owasso, Oklahoma and Deryl Smith of Yukon; mother-in-law Carol Horn Jones of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; sister-in-law Becky Sutton; brother-in-law Kenny Sutton; and five nieces and nephews: Sarah, James, Paul, Megan, and Matt.
