Robert Leland "Bob" Wood

Robert “Bob” Leland Wood was born to Dale and Gladys Wood on June 4, 1938 in Anadarko, OK. On April 1, 1961 he married his true love, Ellen Williams; they shared over 54 years of happiness together. He and Ellen were members of Trinity Baptist Church from 1961 – 1986 where Robert was ordained as a deacon. From 1987 to the present they faithfully attended First Baptist Church in Norman.

A graduate of Norman High School, Bob lived in Norman nearly all his life. As a child he loved to sit and watch construction projects for hours at a time, leading him into a career as an electrical contractor. Always an entrepreneur, he raised rabbits and went door-to-door selling his product from his wagon to neighbors and local grocers when he was a child.

By the age of 17, Bob had purchased his first of several rent houses. Then, he joined USAF National Guard and served from 1957 to October 1961. During his high school years, he began his career at Valouch Electric; as his career developed, he became co-owner of another electrical shop in Norman, Waters Electric on Main Street. Upon his retirement from Waters Electric, Bob continued managing his rentals and decided to start a new career as buildings’ manager for Cleveland County. In all he served the community of Norman for over 52 years until his retirement in 2009.

Robert served the Lord, his family, and others till the day of his departure. Going to church each Sunday and helping at church wherever he could was a priority to him. He was a loving husband and father who valued spending time with his family; making ice cream, riding horses, camping, teaching life lessons to his grandchildren, and spending time laughing around the dinner table with his family are just some of the many precious memories he left behind. He enjoyed watching the city grow through the decades and was able to give the history of every street, building and pasture in town. His hobby was raising cattle at his Noble farm.

Bob was called to be with his Heavenly Father on October 29, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dale Wood. He is survived by his wife, Ellen of the home; daughter, Cecilia Crews and husband Doug of Norman; daughter Katrina Young and husband John of Norman, sister, Ella V Smalley and husband, James of Little Rock, AR; sister-in-law, Vivian Wood of Tulsa, OK; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry and Mary Stacy of Norman, OK; five grandchildren, Dillon Crews and wife Megan, Matt Crews; Kaylee Young, Braden Young, and Connor Young; and a host of nieces and nephews.
