Rebecca Ann Rhynes, age 60, one of central Oklahoma’s brightest lights, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at her home in Noble, Oklahoma.
Rebecca was born January 31, 1964 in Oklahoma City, a daughter of Betty and Bill Rhynes. She was raised and attended school in Noble alongside her sisters Sherri and Cathy. From her earliest years, she was a talented and selfless leader. Rebecca was a Noble High School cheerleader, choir singer, National Honor Society member, and homecoming queen. She graduated with the Noble class of 1982.
Rebecca studied musical theater at the University of Oklahoma where she graduated with a bachelors degree. Among her numerous accomplishments at OU was landing the coveted role of Dorothy in the university’s headline production of The Wizard of Oz.
She married Norman business leader Doug Miller and from that union was blessed with two sons, Braden Douglas and Britton David. She was a loving mother who was always the favorite mom of the boys’ friends. Rebecca was in the center of all of her boys’ activities and their biggest cheerleader. She spoke positivity and confidence into her boys from a young age. The role Rebecca loved even more than being a Mom was being Grandma to her grandchildren. She was a hands-on grandma, playing with them on the floor and engaging with each one of them.
Rebecca was a brilliantly-gifted singer with a passion for music. She experienced success working professionally in musical theater. Among her greatest accomplishments was winning the role of Mary Magdalene in The Promise, the famous outdoor musical in Glen Rose, Texas. She recruited her two boys to serve as shepherd boys in the cast. She also produced and recorded an inspiring album of her own that featured several original songs.
Rebecca also possessed a great talent for leadership and management, including managing her husband Doug’s successful campaign for Oklahoma State Representative, where he won six consecutive terms before being term limited. This led her to managing constituent relations for Congressman J.C. Watts in Norman, and eventually relocating to Virginia where she was Director of Constituent Services for the Republican National Committee. Her worlds collided professionally when she was asked to sing the National Anthem for the 2000 Republican National Convention and sang in the Washington Choral Arts Society where she performed at The Kennedy Center.
Rebecca was a gifted Bible teacher and woman of faith who was a Christian from a young age. She instilled the importance of faith in her children and displayed by her life how to love others as Christ would. Throughout her life, she was a Christ-centered woman who wanted others to have a relationship with Jesus. Rebecca had a smile that lit up every room she entered and a personality that people gravitated to. She had the biggest heart and will leave a legacy of faith, resilience, hard work, and unconditional love. She was always willing to help others without wanting recognition in return. She lived with her children when they needed help and allowed others to come live with her when they needed a helping hand.
Rebecca is survived by her son Braden Miller and wife Paige; son Britton Miller and wife Mikael; mother Betty Rhynes; grandson Knox Wright; grandson Campbell Wright; grandson Kobe Miller; grandson Baker Miller; grandson Kaelo Miller, granddaughter Harper Miller; sister Sherri Goit and husband Dan; sister Cathy Chouteau and husband Mark; along with nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Rebecca is preceded in death by her father Bill Rhynes of Noble.
