Funeral services for Patrick Fletcher, age 47, a lifelong resident of Norman, will begin at 2:00pm Monday, April 14, 2025, at the NPS Center for Arts & Learning, 3801 Journey Parkway in Norman, Oklahoma with his brother, Paul Fletcher, former OU Football Coach Bob Stoops and former OU Assistant Athletic Director Jerry Pettibone presiding.
Patrick Andrew Fletcher was born on Friday, June 24, 1977, in Clinton, Oklahoma the son of Ron and Pamela Fletcher. He passed away very unexpectedly on Monday, April 7, 2025, at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Patrick and his family moved to Norman in 1982 where he began his elementary education as a Cub at Cleveland Elementary. He graduated from Norman High School in May of 1996.
Patrick enrolled at the University of Oklahoma in the Fall of 1996 and was a walk-on with the Oklahoma Sooners Football team as a quarterback. He was a member of the 2000 national championship team defeating Florida State in the Orange Bowl. Patrick appeared in 28 games for the Sooners between 1998 and 2000, throwing for 364 yards and four touchdowns over three seasons.
He was united in marriage to Miss Diana Atwood on June 20, 2009, in Norman, Oklahoma. Patrick and Diana made a wonderful life together raising their two children, Izzy and Jess Patrick.
It’s who Patrick Fletcher was off the field that defined his heart and character. He was an amazingly gifted individual that made people feel special and important. Whether it was participating in his love of sports or singing in the choir, Patrick had a way of connecting with his teammates. Simply put, Patrick was a transformational leader, helping people realize the impossible and placing them on a permanent journey of happiness and healing. His energy, eternal joy and that million-dollar smile brought countless people hope and encouragement. Patrick also had a special bond with kids, coaching and mentoring them to become their very best in athletics and life. His natural enthusiasm and playful spirit made him relatable and someone the kids enjoyed being around. As in everything in his life, Patrick was easy to follow and just someone others wanted to be close to.
In addition to his love of sports and investing in others, Patrick also had a love for music. He was a gifted musician, playing guitar and the piano. Patrick wrote and recorded countless songs and performed at numerous events, including the weddings of some of his closest friends.
Out of all his accomplishments, achievements and notoriety, Patrick excelled mostly in his role as Husband and Dad. He adored Diana, Izzy, and Jess Patrick. He centered life around them and immersed himself in all the activities, adventures and fun that accompanies a family! Life will never be the same without Patrick, but we are so thankful that so many people are blessed because Patrick chose to live a life worthy of all things good and honorable.
The Fletcher family wishes to acknowledge the overwhelming generosity of Steve Owens & Mikey Owens, and Hal Smith. Like Patrick, these two gentlemen embody the true human spirit of love and giving.
