Melanie Kaye Jimerson

November 24, 1965 — March 3, 2016

Melanie Kaye Behrens Jimerson was born to Frank and Ruth Behrens in Wheat Ridge, Colorado on November 24, 1965. Following an extended illness, she went to be with the Lord on March 3, 2016. Melanie graduated from Mannford High School in 1983. She then attended the University of Oklahoma, where she studied music and graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. While attending OU she met her future husband, Jere Jimerson, with whom she shared a love of music and OU sports. Melanie and Jere were later married on June 4, 1988, in Norman, Oklahoma.

Melanie was a very gifted musician who played the piano beautifully, sang in many choirs, and played in marching bands, including the Pride of Oklahoma. She and Jere served together for many years in church music ministry in Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas. She loved to teach music to children, and she taught piano for many years. Most recently, she taught elementary music at both Truman Primary School and Kennedy Elementary School in Norman.

Melanie was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and cousin. She had many close friends with whom she enjoyed traveling and spending time. Her family meant everything to her, which she showed daily by the unconditional love and devotion that she gave them every day. Melanie and Jere had two precious children, Samuel and Abigail. They were the light of her life.

Melanie was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Behrens. She is survived by her husband Jere, son Samuel, daughter Abigail, father Frank Behrens, brothers Doug (Jennifer) and Richard Behrens, brothers-in-law Jeff, Jay (Sue), and Jody (Susan) Jimerson, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins and hundreds of friends.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the many doctors, nurses and close friends who cared for Melanie over the last six months.
