Matthew Curtis Waldroop passed away at his home in Norman Oklahoma on August 20, 2021.
He was born March 29, 1950 in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Matt had battled Congestive Heart Disease for several years.
Matthew was the son of Clovis E. (Buck) Waldroop and Jane Curtis Waldroop. He is survived by his two sisters and their families, all of Norman, Oklahoma. Kathryn Lyth and her husband Drue Lyth, Leigh Calhoun and her husband Bradley. He is also survived by his niece Amanda Lyth Grayson and her husband Bradley Grayson, his nephew LeDrue Lyth IV and his grandniece Violet Grayson and his beautiful cats.
Matt was a scholar and completed his Doctorate degree at the University of Oklahoma, as well he had a Masters degree in Journalism and a Masters degree in Spanish, both from OU. During his life he worked for Dorsett Enterprises, the Houston Chronicle and he taught Spanish at the grade school level, high school level and at OU. He translated some Spanish books, one being an older dialect of Jose' Caldalso's "Lugubrious Nights and the Agony of Romantic Grief".
Matt had many interests stemming from printed media, film and radio. He loved and collected old radio shows, old comics, old movie posters, old serials and periodicals like the Police Gazette.
Matt was an early member of OAF, Oklahoma Alliance of Fans, a homegrown group of Comic enthusists. Some of his favorite characters were Captain America, Frank Merriwell, Sherlock Holmes and especially Humphrey Bogart. Recently he saw Bogie in The African Queen at the Cinema and was excited to see his favorite movie star again on the big screen. Matt had an amazing memory and could tell you detailed information and trivia about any movie or tv show in his collection.
Matt loved Oklahoma and Oklahoma history. A lifelong Okie he had many jobs over the years and met many people from all walks of life.
