Mary Jane Cook

Mary Jane Cook, a remarkable woman whose life was a testament to dedication, love, and elegance, passed away peacefully on May 23,2024. Born on April 27, 1936, in Wapanucka, Oklahoma, to George Washington Bogan and Lula Mae Turner Bogan, Mary led a life filled with professional achievements and family devotion.

Mary began her career with American Airlines as a baggage claim agent, quickly moving to ticket agent, where her intelligence, people skills, teamwork, and leadership proved valuable. She broke new ground by becoming the first Female Supervisor at Oklahoma City's Will Rogers Airport, a role in which she excelled and made look easy. Mary transitioned to real estate, where she became an award-winning agent in Norman, Oklahoma, earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues and clients alike.

Mary was asked to be the travel agent for the Amateur Softball Association, where she spent her remaining working years. She meticulously arranged travel for Olympic coaches and players. She became a huge fan of the players and the association, collecting a room full of mementos. Her dedication to excellence ensured smooth and successful journeys for many representing USA softball.

Mary and JW (Dub) Cook married January 14, 1977 at Story Baptist Church in Story, OK. Family was at the heart of Mary’s life. She was very proud of the Bogan family, her immediate family, and all the siblings’ families. Mary was generous with her time and money. If any of them needed her help, she would be there for as long as necessary. An excellent cook, Mary made every family gathering a great event with food and her penchant for fun. From a very early age, she loved fashion and always looked impeccable.

Mary enjoyed traveling and sharing the fun with family. She generously provided airline tickets to many of her family for their special events. She was an avid dominoes player and spent a lot of time playing with her sisters, their spouses, and her grandchildren. She was a challenge to beat. Her warmth and generosity extended beyond her family; she was a beloved volunteer at Hubbard Elementary in Noble, Oklahoma, where she brought monthly gifts to first graders, who affectionately called her "Grandma."

Mary is survived by her devoted husband J.W. (Dub) Cook of Norman; daughter Danna Hobbs and husband Wade of Weatherford, TX; son Les Brittian and wife Dee of Norman, OK; daughter Missy Fleming and husband Tim of Norman, OK; granddaughter Christine Hightower and her husband James of Weatherford, TX; grandson Andy Hobbs and wife Meredith of Kentucky; granddaughter Jordan Davidson, her husband Chad of Norman, OK; granddaughter Morgan Whitlock, her husband John of Noble, OK; and granddaughter Katy Merkle of Norman, OK; grandson John Arrowood of Norman, OK; granddaughter Jessi Miller and husband Drew of Oklahoma City, OK; her sister Georgia Pattison of Harrah, TX; and 8 wonderful great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Colonel Leon Bogan, Colonel John W. Bogan, Eula Mae Lester, Arlene Bogan, Colonel Robert J. Bogan, Dessie Judkins, Gladys Thrasher, Jean Loeffelholz, Roy Bogan, Dan Bogan, Barbara Taylor, and Wanda Epperson.

Mary Jane Cook's life was a beautiful symphony of love, service, and elegance. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace.
