Mary Frances Ellsworth

December 6, 1929 — June 18, 2020

Mary Francis Ellsworth passed away in Norman Oklahoma on June 18, 2020. Mary was born in Oklahoma City on December 6, 1929. She went to Oklahoma City public schools and then received her bachelors degree and masters degree from Oklahoma State University.

Throughout her adult life, Mary worked as a county social worker and district and regional administrator with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. She was an avid reader and follower of domestic and international politics and economics. Mary was always a serious and determined woman who was very in control of her own life and a feminist who spoke of women’s rights often.

She was also very adventurous. She hitchhiked cross country in her teens, got her pilots license in her 30s, traveled the world independently in her 50s, 60s and into her 70s. Some of her most memorable trips were to Thailand, the Great Wall of China and Rome.

Mary was fiercely independent and strong willed until dementia began to take away some of her independence around 2007.

Mary is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Don Williams of Edmond, daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Ernest Maurer of Mission Viejo, CA, son, Sean Seago, and a brother Tommy Kirkham of Florida. She also leaves behind three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Mary’s family is extremely appreciative of the care and love she received from everyone at Arbor House Reminisce and Tender Care Hospice until her passing last week.
