Martha Kay Lunsford of Norman was born in Sentinel, Oklahoma on June 21, 1935 to Edward James and Neva Gertrude (Price) Brophy. She passed at the age of 82 on July 10, 2017 surrounded by her family.
Martha married the love of her life, Charles Sidney Lunsford, in Colorado Springs on September 8, 1957. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in two months. The good Lord blessed Martha and Charles with three children, and in 1974 they moved to Norman, Oklahoma. There Martha took a position as an administrative assistant with the University of Oklahoma’s School of Electrical Engineering, writing grants and making sure the department ran smoothly. She was loved by the students in the department and was known for always bringing donuts and cookies. She worked in the Engineering Department until her retirement in 2004, but she continued to stay involved with the University through the OU Women’s Association and the OU Retiree Association. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society, and in her spare time she enjoyed reading anything she could get her hands on, traveling with her husband and her friends, and playing the stock market.
Martha was preceded in death by: parents Ed and Neva Brophy; son David Lunsford; and brothers Mike and Jerry Brophy. She is survived by: husband Charles of the home; daughter Kathie Johnson and husband Jerry and their three sons Chris, Brian, and Grant, all of Norman; son Tom Lunsford of Norman; grandson Danny Lunsford of Tulsa and his son Khai, her only great-grandson; brother Pat Brophy; nephew Darrell Brophy; niece Gail Patison and her daughter Lisa McConnell; and best friend Jo Stewart of Mustang, Oklahoma.
