Marguerite Rae Quinn

September 15, 1947 — March 11, 2024

Marguerite Rae (Andrews) Quinn was born in Houston, Texas. She loved spending time on her family’s rice farm in Katy, Texas until they moved to Oklahoma.

Marrae graduated from Putnam City High School in 1965, where she began dating her high school sweetheart, Danny Quinn. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1971, earning a Bachelor’s in Education. While at OU, she was a proud member of Kappa Delta sorority, serving Gamma Theta chapter as President. Her contributions to Kappa Delta continued throughout her life, where she mentored hundreds of KD sisters as a chapter advisor and eventually a Kappa Delta Province and Regional National Officer. She was honored in 2016 with her 50-year White Rose Circle induction.

Marrae was a proud Norman Public Schools educator. She taught Social Studies at Longfellow Middle School and US History at West Mid-High and Norman High School. Her goal, always, was to bring American History to life and make it accessible to students, so that they would become engaged citizens. At West, she began her journey of teaching Leadership classes. She continued this into her Norman High career, where she became Student Council advisor. She guided NHS to develop the Tigerpalooza philanthropic program, and she was an active advisor in the Oklahoma Association of Student Councils. This final career capacity at Norman High allowed her to express the culmination of her love of mentorship, history, and leadership development.

She retired from Norman Public Schools in 2007, and she enjoyed volunteering for Norman Regional Hospital, for her beloved church family at McFarlin, and at Adams Elementary. She loved volunteering as a poll worker for the Cleveland County Election Board, and her gift for her grandchildren upon their 18th birthday was a voter registration form and a free trip to the Election Board to turn it in. She loved traveling anywhere and always—and she had a special place in her heart for road trips. She cheered faithfully for and supported OU women’s basketball and OU football programs. She loved reading biographies of US presidents, in chronological order. At all times, it was essential to her that her hair and nails were perfectly appointed.

Beyond this, she was faithfully devoted to her family and friends, and she was an unabashedly enthusiastic grandmother.

She built tradition in all of her capacities, and this legacy will carry forward by all who knew and loved her. She is preceded in death by her parents Bob and Betty Andrews and Pete Hann. She will especially be missed by her family including her husband, Dan; her daughter, Katy, and son in law, Michael Powers; her daughter, Patty, and son in law, KellyThomason; her brothers Duff and Mark Andrews, and sisters in law, Roberta Lessly and Trish Andrews; step siblings Pat Butler, Pam Carey, and Rusty Hann; nephews and niece Patrick and Erin Andrews and Shad Hagan; her grandchildren, Peyton, Sophie, Ella, Cole, and Harrison Powers; her uncle and aunt, Jerald and Betsy Andrews; aunt, Ruth Bezek; and beloved cousins in Virginia and Texas.
