Marcia Jean Farris had a peaceful transition into the arms of Jesus on December 16th, 2019. She died at home in front of the Christmas tree with football on the TV, exactly how she would have wanted it.
Marcie was diagnosed with breast cancer nine and a half years ago. And throughout those nine years, she spent every day with the mentality of “watch me live.” In those nine years, she traveled to thirty-three states and seven countries, attended countless OU football and women’s basketball games, and welcomed three beautiful grandchildren into her life. She chose to end her fight with cancer on her own terms, not giving her diagnosis the satisfaction of determining her last days. She spent her last two weeks at home surrounded by family and loved ones, and of course Christmas decorations and Hallmark Christmas movies.
Marcie was born in Guymon, OK, on April 17th, 1950, to Laurence and Margaret Thompson. She graduated from Guymon high school in 1968 and earned her degree in accounting in 1972 from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford. She worked as an accountant in Oklahoma City. It was during that time that she met Donald Edward Farris, the love of her life. They were married on September 3, 1977, and they settled into life in Norman. They welcomed two beautiful children, Denise and James Martin “Marty”. Marcie was actively involved in her church, First Baptist Church of Norman. She also was an avid OU fan and held season tickets to OU football for over forty years and to OU women’s basketball for over ten years.
Above everything else, she adored her family. She is preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Joan Thompson. She is survived by her husband Don Farris of Norman, daughter Denise Benzer and husband, Jon, of Edmond, son Marty Farris and wife Ronni of Norman. She is survived by two grandsons, Will and Wyatt Benzer, and one granddaughter, Anna Farris. She is survived by father Laurence Thompson and wife Shirley of Wichita, KS, brother Larry Thompson of Longdale, OK, sister Linda Gray and husband Terrell of Boise City, OK, brother Ron Thompson of Longdale, OK, sister Billye Fischer and husband Dick of Hooker, OK, and many wonderful nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
