Lois (Young) Pickett was born at home January 19, 1921 in Sharon, Oklahoma to Chelcie & Fannie Young. She passed away February 2, 2021 in Norman, Oklahoma. She attended college at Northwestern in Alva, Oklahoma where she met Lawrence Pickett. They married after graduating. Lois taught elementary school at Indian Creek and Shattuck, Oklahoma while Lawrence served in the Navy during WW II. Once he returned home, they moved to Wichita, Kansas. Lois returned to teaching after her children were school age. She taught school at South Hillside Elementary, retiring after 29 years. Lawrence and Lois were charter members of Metropolitan Baptist Church. After Lawrence’s passing, Lois moved to Norman, Oklahoma to be near her daughter.
Shortly before her passing, she celebrated her 100th birthday with family, outside her window at Grace Living Center.
The family would like to thank the staff at Grace Living Center in Norman as well as Good Shepherd Hospice for their exemplary care of Lois.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two brothers.
Lois is survived by her son; Jim Pickett and wife Dianne of Williamsville, Illinois, daughter; Nancy Edwards and husband Dave of Norman, Oklahoma, six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, sister; Alma McCord of Dallas, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Lois’s honor to River Church, PO Box 5237, Norman, Oklahoma 73070. A graveside service will be held in Cherokee, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Tribute Memorial Care. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.tribute.care
