Larry Joe Dilks of Norman passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family Friday, August 21, 2015. He was born December 31, 1944 in Santa Fe, New Mexico to Russell and Alma (Tipton) Dilks.
Larry earned a Bachelors Degree from the University of Central Oklahoma. He married Janie Stewart in Norman on August 27, 1965 and together they raised two children, Rick and Jennifer. He retired in 1994 after 30 years of civil service at Tinker Air Force Base.
Larry, a loving husband and father, enjoyed spending time with his family watching OU Football and Basketball. Larry and his family proudly rented chairbacks to OU football fans for 45 years. Some of his most memorable times with his family was during OU’s 2000 National Championship Game, Final Four in Atlanta, and a World Series Game. Larry also enjoyed playing golf at Pebble Beach, Torrey Pines, and Steel Canyon. Larry, a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Norman, will be remembered for his leadership and grace.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Sandra Dilks, and a niece, Sherri Little. He is survived by his wife of 50 years in 6 days, Janie; son, Rick Dilks and wife Susan of Owasso, OK; daughter, Jennifer Allen and husband Shane of Lee’s Summit, MO; sister, Denise Higgins and husband Ted of Steamboat Springs, CO; brother, Richard Lee Dilks and wife Mary Lee of Norman; five grandchildren, Maegan Dilks, Madeline Dilks, Braiden Allen, Kinady Allen, and Jacob Allen; two aunts, Jo Bowers of Temple, OK and Glennel Williams of Walters, OK; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews, and many friends.
The family would like to thank Oklahoma Hospice Care for their tender loving care of Larry.
