Kevin Clyde Mahaffey of Norman, Oklahoma was born on October 19, 1978 to Clyde and Emmaline (McCoy) Mahaffey in Frederick, Oklahoma. He passed at the age of 38 on Wednesday, February 8, 2017. Services will be held at 10:00 am on February 14, 2017 at Events at Madison Square (480 24th Ave. NW, Suite #132, Norman).
Kevin was the Turf and Outdoor Maintenance Coordinator for Fitness and Recreation at OU and served in this position since Jan 2008. Before coming to OU he was a greens keeper at Westwood Park Golf Course in Norman, OK. He loved his job in which he maintained 22 acres of sports turf for the department’s various sports fields. You could find him painting fields, mowing, applying chemical applications, and being the University representative at various summer camps. Recently he had volunteered for the Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band as part of the logistics team.
When asked his favorite characteristic of Fitness and Recreation, Kevin responded, "My favorite thing about OU and Fitness and Recreation is the atmosphere around campus and working with students."
Kevin attended Frederick High School, where he was a member of three high school state championship football teams. Kevin loved watching football. Many times, you could find him cheering on OU or the Chicago Bears.
The greatest passion in Kevin’s life was imparting his love, humor, and friendship to his family and friends. Anyone he met became a friend, and there was nothing he wouldn’t do for them.
Kevin was preceded in death by his grandparents: Cecil and Geraldine McCoy and Franklin and Grace Sander; and his beloved Siberian Husky, Morrison.
Kevin is survived by his wife, Amber (Gibson) Mahaffey of the home; step-son Landen Roop of Norman; parents Clyde and Emmaline Mahaffey of Norman; brothers Michael Mahaffey of Norman and Brian and Melissa Mahaffey of Shawnee, OK; father/mother-in-law Tom and Judy Gibson of Norman; sister-in law Carlye and Kamas Rooney of Lakeview, MN; nieces Abigail & Allyson Mahaffey and Olivia & Elise Rooney; aunt Yvonna and Monte Nievar of Del City, OK; and long-time friend Jim Jeffers of San Francisco, CA.
