Kenneth H. "Ken" Lowery

September 12, 1933 — November 14, 2022

Kenneth “Ken” Lowery was born on September 12, 1933 in Verona, Missouri to Maurice Harold Lowery and Lola Faye (Hilton) Lowery. He passed away November 14, 2022 in Norman, Oklahoma.

During his school years, Ken met the love of his life, Carol Engler. After graduating high school, Ken served in the United States Army from November 1953-September 1955 in the Korean War era. During this time, he and Carol married on January 12, 1954 in Verona, MO. They had a son, Stephen and a daughter, Cindy.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from SW Missouri State and became a CPA. Ken owned University Chrysler Plymouth from 1968-1976 and finished out his career working at Reynolds Ford from 1976-2017. During his time at Reynolds, Ken became a Legend Leader. Over most of his career he sold about 300 cars a year, averaging around one car a day. His motto was “treat everybody fair and build long-term relationships.” He made many friends along the way and his family would say he never met a stranger.

Ken and Carol were active members of the Norman community all of their lives. The pair were sponsors to many people through the years for the Catholic Church and the Catholic Cursillo movement at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Ken was a member of Kiwanis Club, a volunteer for Norman Regional Hospital, volunteered for Meals on Wheels for 20 years, and also went through the Citizen Police Academy. Ken loved sports and was a big OU football and St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan. He was also a master gardener. Most of all, Ken loved his wife, Carol, and his family dearly.

He is preceded in death by his wife; parents; brothers, Gene Lowery and Donald Lowery. He is survived by his son, Stephen and wife Stephanie of Norman, OK; daughter, Cindy Zumwalt and husband Gary of Norman, OK; sister, Thelma Wormington of Monett, MO; sisters-in-law, Mary Barker of Monett, MO, Ruth King of Broken Arrow, OK; grandchildren, Hilary Lowery and fiancé John Leonard of Minneapolis, MN, Hannah Rushing and husband Grayson of Norman, OK, Steven Zumwalt and wife Tonia of Oklahoma City, OK, Mindy Bailey of Oklahoma City, OK; great grandchildren, Kodey Enos and wife Ashley Enos, Abigail Enos, Gavin Bailey, Carson Bailey; great-great grandchildren, Ryker Enos, Adalyn Enos; and a host of other family, and many friends.
