Kathryn Anne “Kathy” (Kafer) Malthaner was born on August 16, 1958 in Honolulu, HI to Max and Helen Beth Kafer. She passed away on December 26, 2016. Kathy lived to serve others as a wife, mom, friend, nurse, children’s ministry volunteer, and especially Nana. She married the love of her life, Mark Malthaner, on January 30, 1982 in Oklahoma City, OK. They made their home wherever they lived. They began their life together in Norman, moved to Virginia, Ethiopia, Greece, back to Virginia, Georgia, and finally back to Norman where they lived the last 17 years.
Kathy grew up in Ryan, OK, with her brothers Mark and Gary and her sister Karen. She attended Oklahoma State for two years before transferring to University of Oklahoma School of Nursing.
Kathy was known to all for her caring, compassionate, and sweet personality. Her most distinguished career role was that of mother of two children, Anne and Zac. They were her pride and joy and greatest legacy – Anne a teacher and now mother of two, and Zac a missionary serving in Puebla, Mexico. She was equally proud of Anne’s husband Taylor and Zac’s wife Jennifer.
Kathy never missed a birthday or forgot a thank you note. She kept a spotless house, earning the nickname “White Tornado”. Kathy was a great listener, always there for anyone who needed a hug or a warm homemade roll. Those who knew her called her “Sweet Kathy”.
Kathy was best known for playing the piano, love of games, a huge smile, and her delicious baking. Most important to her was her relationship with Jesus. She wanted everyone to know the joy of a personal relationship with Jesus. She loved the Bible and placed scripture in every room of her house.
She was preceded in death by: father Max Kafer; Mark’s dad, Karl Malthaner; and grandchild Baby Malthaner. She is survived by: husband Mark Malthaner of Norman; Anne and Taylor Brown of Euless, TX; Zac and Jennifer Malthaner of Puebla, Mexico; mother Helen Beth Kafer of Ryan, OK; Mark’s mom Kathryn Malthaner of Norman; brothers Mark Kafer and wife Mary of Colleyville, TX and Gary Kafer and wife Beverly of Duncan, OK; sister Karen Kafer of Washington, D.C.; granddaughters Julieanne and Caroline Brown; and scores of other family members.
