Kathryn L. Smith, 64, of Lexington, Oklahoma was born to Melvin Virgil Sumner and Mildred Virginia (Redden) Sumner on May 27, 1953 in Hemet, California.
Kathryn graduated from Moore High School in 1971 and married the love of her life, James R. Smith two years later. Shortly after, they began their family and were blessed with daughter, Marta. Kathryn worked as a secretary for Norman and Tennessee Public Schools for a few years before realizing her life’s work was being home with her family and tending to her daughter. Kathryn looked forward to spending time with her husband James and their friends playing various card games or Mahjong. Through out her life she enjoyed reading and creating, which included sewing, crocheting, and painting ceramics. Kathryn’s caregiving spirit created opportunity for her to help others, so she and James decided to open their home to foster children and had seven at one time. She and James were devoted Mormons and members of the LDS Church of Norman until his passing in 2008.
Kathryn was preceded in death: by her parents Melvin and Mildred Sumner; husband James R. Smith. She is survived by: daughter Marta Smith of Lexington; sister Judy Woods and husband Jimmy of Missouri; sister Carolyn Bard and husband Dave of Georgia; granddaughter Kylie Smith of Lexington; as well as a host of friends.
