Karen Jeanne Edwards was born May 10, 1958 to Betty & Kendall Dykes in Oklahoma City, OK. She ultimately gained her victory in Jesus on October 22, 2017 in Nashville, TN.
Karen was raised and spent her childhood in Washita, OK. She was a tremendous athlete, and the Washita/Fort Cobb area is where her love of basketball was rooted. Karen’s family attended Anadarko Church of Christ, and she made the decision at a young age to give her life to the Lord and continued to grow in her faith everyday. Her faith was very important to her, but more importantly she wanted her children to come to that same faith and to love the Lord.
Karen spent her high school years in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She was one of the founders of the girls’ basketball team at Broken Arrow High School and was an active member of the Broken Arrow Church of Christ youth group.
Karen attended Oklahoma Christian College, where she met her husband of 38+ years, Marty Edwards. After getting married, Karen and Marty moved to and raised their family in Moore, OK, where she had a successful career in interior design for the Oklahoma City area. Karen and Marty made Moore their home with their three girls, Lauren, Lainey, and Lacy. For the last thirteen years Karen primarily resided in Nashville, TN.
Karen’s great loves were God, her family, music, nature, and all the friends that put that big, beautiful smile on her face.
Karen is survived by: her husband, Marty Edwards; daughter Lauren Young and husband Justin, and grandchildren Westin and Koen; daughter Lainey Edwards; and youngest daughter Lacy Dawson and husband Billy; father Kendall Dykes & wife Iris; sister Kendy McWherter & husband Phil; brother Ken Dykes & wife Jane; sister-in-law Michale Edwards; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles whom she loved dearly.
Karen was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Ann Dykes, and her grandparents, Ray & Genevieve Lewis, Paul Dykes, Billie Pybas Dykes, and Helen Dykes. She was also preceded by her mother- and father-in-law, Willie & Cleta Jo Edwards.
