John W. Henson Jr.

August 30, 1941 — November 8, 2023

John W. Henson, Jr., of Norman, Oklahoma, born August 30, 1941, went to Heaven on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, after a year-long illness. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Evelyn Henson, also of Norman. He is survived by his wife Elaine Henson, of Norman; daughter Teresa Schuster (Mike) of Norman; son David Henson (Penny) of Plano, Texas; grandchildren Parker Schuster (Julia), Colorado; Connor Schuster, Washington, DC; Marcus, Seth, and Josh Henson, and Amber Roberts, Texas; and great-granddaughter Phoebe Schuster, Colorado; as well as brother Jim Henson, South Carolina, and other loving family.

John was a very active and beloved member of Bethel Baptist Church where he served in several leadership roles over the years. He also served the state Gideons organization as Treasurer and active volunteer and volunteered with the Lions Club for a number of years. His first professional career as Certified Public Account and Treasurer at an OKC oil and gas company was followed by a number of other endeavors. Never one to retire, he worked as a consultant for a computer software firm, as Assistant for a funeral home, and Business Administrator for three different churches.

He enjoyed golfing, cheering on the OU Sooners, and puzzling. He was well-known for his sharp wit and sense of humor, his compassion and generosity, and service to his community. John will be missed by his family and all whom he selflessly served while they also rejoice in his return to his heavenly home.

There will be a celebration of John's life with a reception to follow at Bethel Baptist Church from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Saturday, February 24, 2024.
