John Thomas Windolph was born in Shattuck, Oklahoma on November 3, 1940 to Ramon J. And Evelynn Mae Windolph. He passed away March 25, 2017.
John grew up in Vici, Oklahoma having graduated from Vici High, where he was a member of the basketball and baseball teams. In the summertime, he enjoyed working with custom wheat harvest crews.
John graduated from Central State University, having earned his Bachelor’s degrees Science and the Arts. He was also a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, earning his Master’s degree in Native American Western History. He enjoyed working in the Western History Archives department as a researcher and teaching as a graduate assistant.
John was a member of the Indian Territory Posse of Westerners, having served as their sheriff. He also belonged to the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
On December 12, 1965 John married Mona Hedges. Their son, John Thomas Windolph, II, “Tommy” was born on October 17, 1971. John really enjoyed helping to coach and watching Tommy play football and baseball.
John was an avid reader, having amassed a large personal library. He always looked forward to going with the “guys” to their annual “deer camp”. He also loved to go fishing with family and friends.
John was baptized at an early age. He loved God, his family, the Sooners, and Oklahoma.
Survivors include: his wife of 51 years, Mona; son Tommy and his wife Amy; grandson Tyler; sister-in-law Carol Vloedman and her husband Henry; brother-in-law RC Hedges and his wife Connie; nephew Ryan Hedges and wife Tracy and their children Symphany and Ryker; nephew Robby Hedges and his son Riley; niece Yvette Cleveland and her husband Burton; and great-niece Brittany Hughes and her husband Ryan.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
Flowers in John’s memory are welcome, however those wishing to make a donation in John’s name may do so to the American Heart Association.
As per John’s request, those attending his services are asked to wear OU attire.
