John Morgan, Jr. was born in Enid, Oklahoma on June 12, 1947 to John Herschel, Sr. and Ruby Marie (Thorlton) Morgan. He passed away on July 5, 2018 in Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 71. He and Marianne Freeman were married on May 31,1969 in Edmond, Oklahoma.
John attended Frederick High School, graduating in 1965. He was a true lifelong learner, earning a Bachelor of Music degree from Central State College in 1969, an MBA from Oklahoma City University in 1993, a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Central Oklahoma in 2003, and earning his CPA license in 2006. He was listed in the 1968-69 volume of Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities.
Shortly after graduating from Central State College, John began a six-year career with the United States Army National Guard, proudly serving from 1969-1975 in the 45th Infantry. During this time he also worked as a musician, music teacher, and manufacturing supervisor at Seagate Technology in Oklahoma City. In 1987 John returned to military service with the United States Air National Guard, where he served for another six years until 1992. He then returned to school to study accounting, and subsequently worked as a CPA until his retirement in 2014.
John had many varied interests, including bowling, golfing, cooking, watching OU football and Thunder basketball, reading, and riding his GS1100E Suzuki motorcycle, but his true passion was music. He played multiple instruments, but specialized in classical and jazz piano. His love of music inspired the rest of his family to embrace music as well.
John was preceded in death by his parents and sister, De’Nise Clemens. He is survived by his wife Marianne of the home, daughter Jennifer Spiva and husband Chad of South Oklahoma City, son Aaron Morgan of Southwest Oklahoma City, grandchildren Payne, Bryson, and Meghan Spiva and Rhys Morgan, niece Kim Schein, and many friends.
John’s family will be present to receive guests in the funeral home’s event center (downstairs) on Thursday, July 12th from 6:00-8:00pm. Services to celebrate John’s life will be held graveside in Heritage Burial Park at South Lakes (4000 SW 119th St, Oklahoma City) on Friday, July 13th at 10:30am.
