John Michael “Mike” Hargis of Norman was born on September 25, 1953 to John Clarence and Grace Viola (Evans) Hargis in Columbus, Ohio. He passed away on Friday, November 30, 2018 at the age of 65.
Mike attended Oklahoma State University, earning his Master’s in Architectural Engineering. On May 16, 1981 he married the love of his life, Sally Ann Neiman, and they made their home in Tulsa. Mike began his career in structural engineering, which took his family to Shawnee, Oklahoma for a few years before landing them permanently in Norman in 1989. Mike was a member of Wildwood Community Church. He enjoyed woodworking, watching football with his son, taking road trips, helping Sally in the garden, and family gatherings.
Mike was preceded in death by his father and his sister-in-law, April Hargis. He is survived by: wife Sally; son Daniel Hargis and wife Emily of Moore, Oklahoma; mother Grace V. Hargis of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and brother Terry Hargis and family of Skiatook, Oklahoma.
Memorial contributions in Mike’s name may be made to City Rescue Mission (cityrescue.org) or to the Wildwood Community Church Children’s Playground.
Mike’s family will be present to receive friends in the funeral home’s downstairs event center from 5:30-7:30pm on Thursday, December 6th. Services to celebrate Mike’s life will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, December 7th at Wildwood Community Church in Norman (1501 24th Ave NE), with burial following at Denver Cemetery (701 108th Ave SE, Norman).
