John Baxter Stewart was born on April 26, 1937 to Lee and Ethel Jane (Barnes) Stewart in Webbers Falls, OK. He passed away on December 1, 2015. John was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force.
John was a man of many talents and interests. As a mechanical engineer, he was always tinkering and building something, usually to do with a vehicle of some sort. John loved restoring old cars and motorcycles to their former glory. As the Cub Scout Leader of Pack 49 he brought to life his scouts’ creations for the Pine Wood Derby. John loved racing go-karts, especially ones that he built. He taught his children about racing cars and motorcycles from a young age; in fact his daughter learned to ride a mini bike before she learned to ride a bicycle! John was a true family man and outdoorsman. He loved going to Grand Lake and spending time on the water, boating and skiing; he was really good at skiing! One of John’s children’s favorite memories of their father is of watching Saturday morning cartoons with him in their parents’ bed as children.
John was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Kitty (Sharlee) Boyd. He is survived by: sons John Stewart, Jr. and wife Michelle of Moore and Jason Stewart of Norman; daughter Melissa Murfitt and husband Michael of Oklahoma City; grandchildren Chelsee, Whitney, and Gracie Stewart of Moore and Miles and Maisie Murfitt of Oklahoma City; niece Ruthie Boyd-Brew of Chicago, IL; ex-wife Sherry Neidhart and husband Bob of Norman.
