Joann Terrell

August 2, 1933 — April 20, 2024

JoAnn Terry Terrell of Norman, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 20, 2024 in Duncan at the age of 90 years, 8 months, and 18 days. JoAnn was born August 2,1933 in Ft. Worth, TX to James R. (Pappy) and Kathleen Forgy Terry. She attended school in Duncan, graduating with the Class of 1953, then started a 21-year career with Security National Bank, now BancFirst. She furthered her education at the University of Oklahoma where she received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Business.

JoAnn stayed in Norman after graduation where she became the Adult Education Coordinator at the new Moore-Norman Technology Center. She was instrumental in developing career-oriented programs and bringing them to classrooms. Following an 18-year career at Moore-Norman, she retired from Education and in 2001 joined her husband Walt and his partner, Gwen Arveson in Real Estate. In 2007, JoAnn was one of the seven founding members of Metro Brokers of Oklahoma. JoAnn was very active in the Norman community and made many friends. She served on a number of non-profit boards, the Norman Chamber of Commerce, Norman Newcomers, NWEN, Salvation Army, Cleveland County Republicans, and served as a docent at a local museum. She served for many years at a local polling place and was actively involved at McFarlin United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and helped with anything she was asked to do.

JoAnn and Walt were long-time season ticket holders to Sooner football and OU Women’s Basketball. They travelled the globe together for many years, making memories and loving life together, as well as with friends and family.


JoAnn leaves behind her nieces Ronda Byrne (Jeff) of Duncan, Susan (Michael) Owens of Copperas Cove TX, Sharon Wieland (Ken) of Arlington TX, Patty (J.B.) Chimene of Rinner VA and nephew Steve Long of Norman. She is also survived by two generations of loving great-nieces and nephews. She will also be greatly missed by her partners and close friends at Metro Brokers, Gwen Arveson, Betty Goss and Jim and Sherry Gottschalk.


JoAnn was preceded in death by her soulmate Walter (Sonny) Terrell, her parents, her sister Betty Jean Russell, her in-laws Billy Roy and Vallie Terrell, Tom and Ila Mae (Terry) Long, nephew Michael Terrell, and twin great-great nieces, Harlow Grace and Harper Jane Kaiser.


A visitation for JoAnn will be Wednesday April 24th at Tribute Memorial Care from 5-7pm. Funeral Services will be 10am Thursday April 25, 2024 at McFarlin Memorial UMC with interment at 2pm in Elmore City Cemetery. To leave online condolences please visit tribute.care.
