Joan Margaret Boehrer (Diemer) passed away May 4, 2023, after 87 beautiful years of life.
As the ultimate Christmas gift, she entered this world on Christmas Eve (December 24th) 1935 as the first of four daughters to Alvine & Wilma Diemer, in Perrysburg, OH. As a young woman, she was beautiful and sassy and it didn’t take long for the love of her life, Joseph Leo Boehrer, to fall in love with her. They wed on September 1, 1956, and began a life full of love and cherished moments.
Joan & Joe spent the first years of their marriage in Ft. Wayne, Indiana where she would bring 5 amazing souls into this world (4 sons and 1 daughter). By 1972 they had made their way to Norman, OK and she would spend the next 50 years in the same home, making a memorable life and touching the lives of so many.
Joan was vivacious, independent, strong, sassy, bossy, feisty, beautiful, funny, witty, trendy, stubborn, and ambitious. She was also a talented artist, especially with watercolors, and extremely talented quilter. All these qualities led her to obtain a BA in Art at the University of Oklahoma and ultimately opening her own quilting store, Patchwork Place. Joan, with Joe by her side, would go on to run Patchwork Place for over 19 years. The connections she made during these years would last a lifetime.
Although nothing was more important than her family, as a woman so active and social, Joan over the years became active in many organizations and clubs. She dabbled in Square-Dancing and played Bridge, but also at some point was a member of the following groups: Newcomers Club, Gourmet Group, Red Hat Society, and several quilting groups & guilds.
After retirement Joan continued to stay active, as she was never one to be anything less than ambitious. She went on to teach Art at Little Axe High School for one year and then from 2003-2022 worked in many areas within Norman North High School. Facility and staff would see her as a substitute teacher, working in enrollment, and ultimately selling tickets at many High School sporting events. That wasn’t enough though! In her later years she also went on to teach Watercolor painting classes and work for the Cleveland County Election Board.
Joan is survived by her loving children, Timothy Boehrer (wife Cathy), Terry Boehrer (wife Susan), Tami Bailey (husband Earle), and Tracy Boehrer. All in all, she was the proud matriarch of a family of 4 children (plus 3 spouses), 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren! She will also be greatly missed by her sisters Judy Diehm & Jill Diemer, and brother-in-law Roger Fenton.
Joan was welcomed to Heaven where she was lovingly awaited by her parents (Alvine & Wilma), husband (Joseph), son (David), and sister (Jeanette).
Though we tried, there are no words that can adequately describe Joan, as she was one of a kind. We were all blessed to know her and will miss her beyond measure. Love, never-ending.
The family will be hosting a come-and-go mingle for those wishing to pay their respects, on May 21, 2023, from 2-4pm at Joan’s home. 1619 Oakhurst Avenue Norman, OK 73071
