Jeff Frederick

Jeff Frederick of Norman, Oklahoma passed away on September 16th, 2021, in Norman, Oklahoma. He was born on August 2, 1940, in San Antonio to Lonnie Holland Frederick and Edna Dickson Frederick.
He married Doris V. Frederick on August 31, 1962, and they were married for 59 years. Mr. Frederick was a musician and taught Vocal/choral music for 36 years, first in Texas and then 32 years at East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. He taught private voice, directed choirs, taught conducting, and directed musical comedies and chamber operas at East Central. He organized THE OKLAHOMANS, a student entertainment group which performed for Veteran’s Hospitals in 16 states as part of the USO Hospital Tours. The group also performed for two World’s Fairs and made two overseas tours for USO to both the Caribbean and the South Pacific. In 2011 he was named “Distinguished Former Faculty Member” at East Central.
Mr. Frederick also performed in opera, musicals, oratorios, and vocal concerts, and served as an interim choir director for several Oklahoma churches. For eighteen years he served as choir director for the First Presbyterian Church in Ada. He was a member of several professional music organizations and served as a judge for Junior High and High School vocal contests in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas for over fifty years. Mr. Frederick has music degrees from Southwest Texas State College, North Texas State University with doctoral studies at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and the University of Oklahoma.
Mr. Frederick is survived by his beloved wife, Doris; son, Christopher and his wife Christi of Ardmore, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Matthew Frederick of Tulsa, Elizabeth Frederick Tolbert and her husband T.J., Luana Antuono St. John and her husband Reid, and Anna Antuono, all of Ardmore, nephews, Kurt and Kyle Owen of San Antonio, Texas.
Mr. Frederick is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Judith Frederick Owen.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jeff and Doris Frederick music scholarship fund through the ECU Foundation or a charity of your choice.
