James A. Mchughes

James Andrew McHughes, age 95, went home to his Lord and Savior on November 18, 2022.

He was the 4th child of John E. and Willis (McGhee) McHughes, born on February 9, 1927 in Purcell, Oklahoma. He married the love of his life, Jolene (Amrein) McHughes on July 5, 1947 at the First Baptist Church in Noble, OK. They were blessed with three sons, James Alan, Randy Lee, and Mark Andrew.

After working for several years in Tulsa, they returned to Norman where they owned and operated Sooner Dairy Lunch. Jolene passed away in December 1999. James continued working until he was 92.

James was a man of strong faith and believed in Jesus as his Lord and Savior. They were early members of Bethel Baptist Church. He served on several committees and was an active deacon for several years. He was also a member of Gideon’s International.

James was preceded in death by his wife, Jolene; parents; brothers, John and his wife Alice, AC and his wife Bobbie; sister, Essie Meyer and her husband Ray; brother-in-law, Robert O’Neal; sister-in-law, Wanda McHughes.

He is survived by his 3 sons, Jim (Melanie), Randy (Jeanie), and Mark (Karla); 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; older brother, Jack; younger sister, Dorothy; many nephews and nieces; and a host of other family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethel Baptist Church of Norman or Gideon’s International.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday, November 21, 2022 at Tribute Memorial Care, 708 24th Ave NW, Event Center, Norman, OK. Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, November 22nd at Bethel Baptist Church, 1717 W. Lindsey St., Norman with interment to follow at IOOF Cemetery, Norman.
