Grayson Hunter Smith was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on October 1, 1990, to Pat and Kathy (Dixson) Smith. He was taken too soon at the age of 26 on June 6, 2017.
Grayson grew up in Norman and attended Norman North High School. After graduation, he attended the University of Oklahoma, and later entered the oil and gas industry as a landman. Grayson worked at several brokerage firms including Regan Resources, Schonwald Land, and Turner Oil Properties. When the oil bust hit a few years ago, Grayson moved to Fort Worth to pursue other interests, but his dream was always to be a landman. A little less than a year ago, he got his chance, accepting a job with Echo Energy. He absolutely loved working at Echo. Being the “people person” that he was, he thrived at talking with people to acquire their minerals for his new company. Grayson was one of Echo’s top mineral buyers at the time of his death.
Grayson was a natural athlete and competitor. He used his talents to play baseball and basketball at Norman North. He also enjoyed playing golf with his dad and friends. Playing golf with his dad at Lake Kiowa was a one of Grayson’s favorite things to do. He never let his dad beat him, ever! Grayson loved the Thunder and all OU Sports, especially football. He could always be found watching sports games with his friends. He had a very competitive spirit and hated losing, even if it was just at a game of Monopoly with his family.
Grayson had a huge heart, and a kind and generous spirit. He was a friend that everyone needed and the kind everyone wished they could be. When Grayson was your friend, he was your friend for life. Grayson loved people and loved being the life of the party. He had a contagious laugh that was infectious to everyone around him. His laugh will be missed by all who heard it.
Family meant everything to Grayson. He was grateful for his parents and their constant support. He considered his father to be one of his best friends. He never left the house without telling his mother that he loved her. He made it a point to often tell his parents how proud he was of his brother and sister. He truly loved them both with all of his heart.
