Gordon Emmett Funkhouser was born in Anderson, Indiana, on January 17, 1933 to Charles and Emma (Wilson) Funkhouser. He passed at the age of 84 on March 24, 2017.
Gordon was married to Beverly Sue Eller in Pendleton, Indiana on April 6, 1957. Gordon and Beverly have been actively involved in the Norman community since 1961. Gordon was a member of The Cross Church of Norman, was a life member of the Tri-City Gun Club, and a member of the Parkinson’s Support Group. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason with the Scottish Rite Masonic Lodge of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Gordon served in the U.S. Navy on two LST ships during the Korean War as a radar operator. After his service in the Navy, Gordon was a Research Physiologist for 35 years with the Federal Aviation Administration.
Gordon was extremely involved with his three sons and their activities, serving as a DeMolay Dad, Boy Scout Leader, and instructor for the Norman Junior Bullseye Rifle Club.
Gordon participated in many hobbies, including genealogy, target shooting, Harley riding, and cowboy action shooting with the Short Grass Rangers in Grandfield, Oklahoma.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Beverly Eller Funkhouser of the home; his three sons, Gary Paul Funkhouser and wife Kashmira of Moore, Oklahoma, Bradley Craig Funkhouser and wife Joanna of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and James Douglas Funkhouser and wife LaVonna of Duncan, Oklahoma; his five grandchildren, Rachel and Cyrus Funkhouser, Ashley Funkhouser and Ally Funkhouser Dye, and Andrew Funkhouser; one sister, Barbara Funkhouser Schultz of Salisbury, Maryland; and his nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Emma Funkhouser.
