Gertrude Nance

Gertrude Nance of Norman, Oklahoma passed away on December 2, 2017 in Norman at the age of 89.

Gertrude was born on March 3, 1928 in Bokchito, Oklahoma to Samuel Louis and Eula (Jones) Prentice. She grew up in Bokchito, attending Bokchito School before graduating from Durant High School. She furthered her education at Southeastern University, where she received her Bachelor’s degree in home economics.

Following her education, Gertrude moved to Shawnee, where she began her career as a Home Economist with OG&E. In 1950, Gertrude met Gene Nance on a blind date, and the two were married on November 10, 1950 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Gertrude and Gene lived in Shawnee for a short time before making their home in Norman, where they raised their family. Gertrude was a full-time homemaker and mother, being active in her children’s school and scouting activities.

When her children were grown, Gertrude went back to work in social services, retiring in 2005. She continued to live in Norman, even after Gene’s passing in 2014. Gertrude enjoyed birds, flowers, live music, and ice skating, but what she loved more than everything was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her sister, Morea Prentice. She is survived by: daughters Lynne Turcott (Paul) of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Leslie Nance (Mike Binck) of Norman; son Gary Nance (Jill Curran) of Eugene, Oregon; six grandchildren: Jonathan (Rachel), Jordan (Silva), Rob, Meredith, Charlie, and Caili (Justin); five great-grandchildren: Isabella, Jackson, Evelynn, Luke, and Sophia; and brother Louis Prentice.
