Genesis Daniella Legarda

Genesis Daniella Legarda started dancing with the angels on September 5, 2024. That is what brings us all together today; however, Daniella’s story does not end here, nor did it begin here. Born on August 28, 2010, Daniella would constantly remind us if we remembered when her birthday was by asking how many months until the day that she turned another wonderful year would arrive.   

Many people did not know Daniella by her middle name, many knew her as Genesis, Gen, pooks, mija, Daniellukies, Lela (as her brother, Alex, always calls her), or my personal favorite “Daniellers”. Whatever Daniella liked to be called by, we all know how much she meant to us. If you knew Daniella, then you knew how easily she could make you smile and then laugh at her silliness. If you knew Daniella, then you would know how much she likes her Brown Sugar Milk Tea Boba drink that she would always get with her cousins. If you knew Daniella, then you would know how much she liked to defend her arguments even when she knew she was wrong. That is why Daniella would have been her family’s first and only lawyer. If you knew Daniella, then you would know how much she loved to sing (she was in her school’s choir) and she loved to sing specifically in the shower. If you knew Daniella, then you would know she could be found every Sunday evening with her older cousins playing at the park, drinking boba, eating Mexican ice cream, and heading back to Norman after being in the city to get ready for another day of school on Monday. If you knew Daniella, then you would know her love for Sephora, especially smelling like Sol de Janeiro’s body mist products: specifically the purple bottle. If you knew Daniella, then you would know how messy her room could be at times, but then you would see bookshelves littered with books since she loved to read: her favorite genre being historical fiction. If you knew Daniella, you would know how much she liked to tease her older cousin Lindsay because as she said and I quote, “You always dress like a grandma.” All I would say to this was, “Well, at least this grandma has style and loves you.” She would cringe next.   

Daniella’s laugh is infectious, her smile transferable, and her love that she would give to others contagious. When our family was passing through hard moments, Daniella was there with her warm hugs and thick curly hair that would tickle our faces. Even until the last moment, Daniella was still warm because that is who she represents in our lives: a warm soul to laugh with, drink boba with, hug with, “lawyer” argue with, and most importantly love with. She is a walking ray of sunshine, illuminating the dark corners of our houses, lawns, and hearts where even the shade cannot win against the shining yellow (her favorite color) that envelops all of the lives she has touched. Despite that blinding light being persistent at times, we all know how warm the sun can be. With this in mind, if you have ever found yourself stuck in a cold place inside for too long, but then manage to make it outside on a warm, sunny day where the sun seems warms every inch the cold had touched, then you have met our Daniella, my Daniellers. That is why Genesis Daniella Legarda, loving sister, daughter, cousin, niece, grandaughter, friend, and student is worth working hard on this Earth for in order for us to see her again one day in Heaven. If Daniella were here, she would encourage all of us to continue to smile, laugh, sing, and drink as many boba drinks as we can, preferably every Sunday after church because life is too short. 

Come-and-go visitation for Genesis will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Bridgeview United Methodist Church Chapel, 4300 W. Indian Hills Rd., Norman, OK 73072. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the Bridgeview United Methodist Church Chapel, with burial to proceed to Warren Cemetery in Norman, OK. Arrangements are under the direction of Tribute Memorial Care. 

Génesis Daniella Legarda comenzó a bailar con los ángeles el 5 de septiembre de 2024. Eso es lo que hoy nos une a todos; sin embargo, la historia de Daniella no termina aquí ni comenzó aquí. Nacida el 28 de agosto de 2010, Daniella nos recordaba constantemente si recordábamos cuándo era su cumpleaños preguntándonos cuántos meses faltaban para que llegara el día en que cumpliera otro año maravilloso. 

Mucha gente no conocía a Daniella por su segundo nombre, muchos la conocían como Génesis, Gen, pooks, mija, Daniellukies, Lela (como siempre la llama su hermano Alex), o mi “Daniellers” favorita. Como sea que le gustara que la llamaran a Daniella, todos sabemos lo mucho que significó para nosotros. Si conocías a Daniella, sabías con qué facilidad podía hacerte sonreír y luego reírte de sus tonterías. Si conocieras a Daniella, sabrías cuánto le gusta su bebida Brown Sugar Milk Tea Boba que siempre tomaba con sus primos. Si conocieras a Daniella, sabrías cuánto le gustaba defender sus argumentos incluso cuando sabía que estaba equivocada. Por eso Daniella habría sido la primera y única abogada de su familia. Si conocieras a Daniella, sabrías cuánto le encantaba cantar (estaba en el coro de su escuela) y le encantaba cantar específicamente en la ducha. Si conocieras a Daniella, entonces sabrías que la pueden encontrar todos los domingos por la noche con sus primos mayores jugando en el parque, bebiendo boba, comiendo helado mexicano y regresando a Norman después de estar en la ciudad para prepararse para otro día de escuela el lunes. Si conocieras a Daniella, sabrías su amor por Sephora, especialmente el olor a productos de bruma corporal de Sol de Janeiro: específicamente la botella morada. Si conocieras a Daniella, sabrías lo desordenada que puede ser su habitación a veces, pero luego verías estanterías llenas de libros, ya que a ella le encantaba leer: su género favorito era la ficción histórica. Si conocieras a Daniella, sabrías cuánto le gustaba burlarse de su prima mayor Lindsay porque, como ella dijo y cito: "Siempre te vistes como una abuela". Todo lo que dije fue: "Bueno, al menos esta abuela tiene estilo y te ama". Ella sería la siguiente en estremecerse. 

La risa de Daniella es contagiosa, su sonrisa transferible y el amor que daría a los demás contagioso. Cuando nuestra familia atravesaba momentos difíciles, Daniella estaba allí con sus cálidos abrazos y su espeso cabello rizado que nos hacía cosquillas en la cara. Incluso hasta el último momento, Daniella seguía siendo cálida porque eso es lo que ella representa en nuestras vidas: un alma cálida con quien reír, beber boba, abrazar, discutir con un “abogado” y, lo más importante, amar. Ella es un rayo de sol andante, que ilumina los rincones oscuros de nuestras casas, jardines y corazones, donde ni siquiera la sombra puede vencer al amarillo brillante (su color favorito) que envuelve todas las vidas que ha tocado. A pesar de que esa luz cegadora es persistente a veces, todos sabemos lo cálido que puede ser el sol. Con esto en mente, si alguna vez te has encontrado atrapado en un lugar frío en el interior durante demasiado tiempo, pero luego logras salir en un día cálido y soleado donde el sol parece calentar cada centímetro que el frío había tocado, entonces te has encontrado. nuestra Daniella, mis Daniellers. Es por eso que vale la pena trabajar duro en esta Tierra para Génesis Daniella Legarda, amada hermana, hija, prima, sobrina, nieta, amiga y estudiante para que podamos verla nuevamente algún día en el Cielo. Si Daniella estuviera aquí, nos animaría a todos a seguir sonriendo, riendo, cantando y bebiendo tantas bebidas de boba como podamos, preferiblemente todos los domingos después de la iglesia porque la vida es demasiado corta.

El velorio de Génesis será el martes 10 de septiembre de 2024 de 6 de la tarde hasta las 8 de la noche en la Capilla de la Iglesia Metodista Unida de Bridgeview, 4300 W. Indian Hills Rd., Norman, OK 73072. Los servicios funerarios serán el miércoles 11 de septiembre de 2024 a las 11 de la mañana en la Capilla de la Iglesia Metodista Unida de Bridgeview, y el entierro se realizará en el Cementerio Warren en Norman, OK. Los arreglos están bajo la dirección de Tribute Memorial Care.
