Frederick Walden, a beloved figure in the Norman, Oklahoma community, passed away on July 28, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on October 10, 1946, to Jess and Vivian Walden, Fred lived a life marked by dedication to family, service to his country, and commitment to his community.
Fred graduated from Norman High School in 1964 and attended Daughn School of Electronics before leaving to join the Navy during the Vietnam War. His service was a testament to his courage and patriotism.
After his military service, Fred returned to Norman, where he became a cornerstone of the community. He was a past member of the Norman Business Association, Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, and the Thursday Tipps Club. Fred operated Walden Cleaners, a business his father started in 1933, and he successfully managed it until he passed the reins to his son and daughter-in-law.
Fred was a family man at heart. He cherished every moment spent with his loved ones, especially his grandchildren. He never missed a baseball or soccer game and recently enjoyed teaching his grandson, Braxton, how to play pool. Fred's love for his family was evident in everything he did.
Known for his honesty and straightforward nature, Fred always had a story to tell and was ever ready to lend a helping hand. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed taking trips in his mobile home, creating countless memories along the way.
Fred is preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Vivian Walden, and his brother, Joe. He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn; his daughter, Jessica Crook, and her husband, Jeff; his son, Tonny, and his wife, Sara; and his three cherished grandchildren, Kaden, Braxton, and Mason. He also leaves behind his nephew, Joe Don, and his wife, Pat.
Frederick Walden was truly one of a kind, and his legacy of kindness, honesty, and dedication will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the entire Norman community.
