Foy Edwin Cox, 71, of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2021. Foy was born December 5, 1949 in Norman, OK to Foy Cox and Lula Naomi (Hunt) Cox. He graduated from Norman High School in 1968. Foy then joined the United States Air Force from 1968-1971. From 1971-1974 he was in the United States Air Force Reserve. Foy served as a Personnel Specialist during the Vietnam War where he was stationed in Thailand. He also served as a Chaplain’s Aide and was on the Base Honor Guard at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, TX. After his enlistment, Foy, later found a civil service position at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma. He continued to work in civil service logistics at Tinker until he retired on December 31, 2011 after 32 years of service. During his tenure, Foy, received numerous certifications and letters of commendation.
While Foy was stationed at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, TX, he met and shortly thereafter married Retha Annell (Russell) Cox. This union was sealed on May 20, 1972 at the Castleberry Baptist Church in River Oaks, TX, where they initially met. Foy and Retha just celebrated their 49th Anniversary. Foy and Retha brought two children into this world, Jamathan Cox and Melissa Cox.
Foy joined the Boy Scouts with his son Jamathan where he served as an Assistant Scout Master with Troop 245 for several years. He loved going on walks and bike rides with his kids. First and foremost, he taught his kids about the love of God and raised his family in a strong Christian home. Foy loved his family more than anything and was not afraid to show it. He loved being a family man. Foy was a longstanding member of Bethel Baptist Church, Norman, OK.
Foy is survived by his wife, Retha Cox of Norman, OK; daughter, Melissa Cox of Norman, OK; two sisters, Linda Barker and husband, Art Barker of Morris, IL and Karen Sieber of Noble, OK; brother, John Cox of Norman, OK; four granddaughters, Joyanna and Gracie Cox of Norman, OK, Emma Langbein of Fort Worth, TX, and Madalynn Vanhoy of Norman, OK; three great-grandchildren, Logan Vincent, Emberly and Wenona Cox of Georgia; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Foy was preceded in death by his parents, Foy and Lula Cox; brother, Ben Cox; father and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Mary Russell; son, Jamathan Cox; and grandson, Garrett Cox.
